In readers\u2019 messages, I see the same thing happen across continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stories do what debates cannot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They replace enemies with neighbors&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a divided world, this is not a luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We do not lack information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We lack understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stories teach us to live inside another person\u2019s skin for a while. To carry their fears. Their hopes.
